  1. Micro Energy Café
  2. Microenergize the school
  3. The batteryfree party

Here please find three activities that we propose you to organize in order to disseminate the knowledge on the role of microenergies in the context of your city, region or country.

These are just three possible activities and we stress that every participant is warmly invited to realize and share other events or ideas that could be implemented.

1. Micro Energy Café

The Microenergy Café is a Science Café presenting the topic of energy harvesting at micro and nano scale.  The main feature of a science café is the informal and accessible atmosphere that such an event creates to trigger a dialogue with the audience. A current science topic becomes the object of a friendly conversation among non experts but interested people.
Usually the conversation takes place in a café, in a pub or in any other meeting place where a typical café settings can be recreated, round tables, chairs and some refreshments will help to reach the goal. The dialogue between the public and the scientists can be introduced and moderated by a science communicator, a science journalist or by a scientist with communication skills and expertise. Music, readings or actors’ short performances can also be used both to emphasize some concepts and to introduce new ideas, as well as to shape the rhythm of the conversation.

How to:
- Choose the venue
: Identify your audience and choose a popular café, pub or a bar where you can engage also with casual audience. Select a place with areas that can be rearranged to host small meeting (30  to 40 seats will be a suitable size for a good science café).

- Choose the speakers: Do not look necessarily for famous speakers. Involve at least one scientist from your City or area University.

- Involve the audience: Use social networks to invite people to join the café. Think of some special strategy to engage the casual audience visiting the café while you’re doing the event.

- Advertise a Science Café: Involve a local radio and a TV as media partner. Create a special logo and a poster for your microenergy café like this one.

2. Microenergize the school

This activity is addressed to the secondary schools mainly to students over 17 and is organized to reach two main goals: introducing the microenergy approach relevance within the field of renewable energies  and present the scientific careers connected to the field of renewable microenergies physics and engineering.

The format
A lecture demonstration of 45 minutes  will present to the students the basic science and the applications of microenergy physics and engineering through experiments, movies and other tools used by a scientist or a science communciator. A lecture demonstration is a mean of conveying the excitement of science from one person to another, is a balanced mix of show techniques and surprising experiments. The lecture demonstration is one of the most powerful tools at the disposal of the science communicator that arise the interest of young students through a range of demonstrations that illustrate the importance of science in the real world.

The Microerngy Archive
One of the goal of the microenergy day project is to create an archive of science demos that allows researchers and communicators to visualize the invisible. The physics processes connected with the microenergy production or harversting are hard to be visualize and than understood by students, as well as by general audience including the media.  It is than necessary to create new metaphors and to picture new examples to describe the processes that happen at micro and nano scale.

How to:
- Organize it:
Select one or two secondary schools of your city/region two months before the event. Involve a professional science demonstrator or science communicator expert in non-formal  teaching techniques or train one of your researcher to become an excellent science demonstrator.

- Communicate it: Choose a local TV partner to broadcast the lecture demonstration. Produce a video that shows the best demos of the lecture demonstration and upload on the web Microenergy Archive.

3. The batteryfree party

This is a party where all people are invited to bring an electronic object that works without batteries.
The idea behind it is to create a zoo of unexpected battery free objects that can attract the curiosity and the interest of general audience. Such a collection can be an hold to present the research on microenergy as a tool to avoid the use of battery for micro and nano electronic device.
This is only one of the possible future applications of the research on the energy harvesting processes at microscale but it is one of the most attractive for the general audience and it is quite easy to communicate.
The batteryfree party It is than intended as an event aimed at grabbing the attention of the audience and starting a process of exploration of the microenergy world.

The format
The central activity of this event is the exhibition of the objects collected through the campaign for battery free objects. Combined with it a misic concert will allow to create a convivial setting to gather people from different background. During the concert some use of the objects will be showed to the audience to introduce some concept about microenergy.
During the event a contest to choose the most original object will be also carried on and a jury will decide which object to select.

How to:
- Organise it:
Lauch a campaign to collect as much battery free electronic objects as possible to exhibit during the event. We suggest to launch the campaign via the web and some local newspapers three months before the event. In the meantime a research about collectors of this kind of objects can be carried on by the organising team.
Choose an unusual place as venue for the event. Depending on the target you want to address the venue could be a big electronic equipment store as well as an historic venue of your city that create a sort of cultural clash between the technological advanced topic and the physical context.

- Communcate it: Select a national media partner to advert for the batteryfree party and to create a live broadcast for the event. During the live broadcast try to involve other cities with similar collection campaign.
